Marauder MAD-3R Configurations for MechWarrior Online

Marauder MAD-3R Configurations for MechWarrior Online

As has already been mentioned, the unseen Marauder mechs are coming to MechWarrior Online on December 1, 2015. Below are some of my builds for the MAD-3R Marauder, based on what information has been provided regarding hard points and original configurations. These are not fully tested, due to not being released yet, but are theory only and tested with the Banshee BNC-3E as a roughly similar platform (heat, weapon configurations, etc).

MAD-3R AC/2 Variant

This variety of the MAD-3R replaces the PPCs and AC/5 with a trio of AC/2s and 2 additional medium lasers. It also boasts maximum armor, endo-steel structure, and double heatsinks. The conversion from the base MAD-3R should run approximately 2 million cbills.

Engine: 300 Standard

Armor: 462 of 462 Standard

Heatsinks: 15 Double

Structure: Endo-steel

Weapons:

Left Arm: 2 Medium Lasers

Left Torso: AMS

Right Torso: 3 AC/2s

Right Arm: 2 Medium Lasers

To be placed: 3 double heatsinks (12 covered by engine), 3 tons of AC/2 ammo (225 rounds), 1 ton of AMS ammo (2000 rounds)

Notes: Tested the build using a BNC-3E as a base (same heatsinks, same number of weapons). Heat was a very minor issue unless you constantly used alpha strikes. Even then, it took a while to overheat.

Possible upgrades:

XL Engine with more speed and more heatsinks, possibly upgrading Medium Lasers to Medium Pulse Lasers (requiring 4 tons).

MAD-3R Ultra AC/5 Variant

This version of the MAD-3R replaces the PPCs and AC/5 with a double Ultra AC/5 and a pair of medium lasers.

Engine: 300 Standard

Armor: 462 of 462 Standard

Heatsinks: 15 Double

Structure: Endo-Steel

Weapons:

Left Arm: 2 Medium Lasers

Left Torso: AMS

Right Torso: 2 Ultra AC/5s

Right Arm: 2 Medium Lasers

To be placed: 3 double heatsinks (12 covered by engine), 3 tons of Ultra AC/5 ammo (90 rounds), 1 ton of AMS ammo

Notes: Using the BNC-3E as a test model again, heat was a very minor issue. Chain firing the twin Ultra AC/5s made jamming fairly rare.

MAD-3R Brawler Variant

This build replaces every weapon. Putting 2 Medium Pulse Lasers in each arm and an AC/20 on the right torso.  It tore done an Awesome in about 3 salvos (on test, it wasn’t moving).

Engine: 300 Standard

Armor: 462 of 462 Standard

Heatsinks: 15 Double

Structure: Endo-Steel

Weapons:

Left Arm: 2 Medium Pulse Lasers

Left Torso: AMS

Right Torso: AC/20

Right Arm: 2 Medium Pulse Lasers

To be placed: 3 double heatsinks (12 covered in engine), 3 tons of AC/20 Ammo (21 rounds), 1 ton of AMS ammo

Notes: Heat is still not a huge problem, but it is worth watching. On Caustic Valley, 3 quick alpha strikes didn’t quite overheat me (AC only fired twice), but it destroyed an Awesome.

Concerns: It is a little slow for a great brawler, but the engine cannot be upgraded to an XL. In urban settings, like River City or Frozen City, ambush tactics would be devastating. Range is very short on this build.

Final Notes

These are the builds I tested using the Marauder MAD-3R as a base and the BNC-3E as a test platform. Upgrading to Double Heatsinks and changing to Endo-Steel should cost less than 2 million C-bills, weapons sold separately. I am looking forward to using these builds and deciding my favorite when the unseen mech returns on December 1, 2015 to MechWarrior Online.
