Salt Lake Comic Con – T-3 and Counting (Sci-Fi Edition)

Salt Lake Comic Con – T-3 And Counting (Sci-Fi Edition)

Greetings Geeks and Gamers!

This month is a special treat. Not only is it the first Comic Con to be held in Salt Lake City, but it is on schedule to be the biggest single debut Comic Con in history. Let’s look at some numbers:

# of Attendees at the inaugural New York Comic Con: 33,000 (2006)

Tickets Sold prior to September 1st: 25000

Expected Attendance for Salt Lake Comic Con (2013): over 40,000

Number of Guests: over 200

It would appear that the maiden voyage of Salt Lake Comic Con is on track to shatter records. That is all fine and dandy, but what does it entail? Who is coming to this Comic Con? Is it something that I will be interested in?

Well, the answers are as follows. First, Comic Con entails comic authors and artists, fantasy authors and artists, sci-fi authors and artists, actors, cosplayers, game designers, geeks, gurus, Star Wars, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, and salsa dancing (no, seriously, there will be salsa dancing).  Second, the guest list would rock the socks off any Who’s Who list ever made.  Third, if you are a geek, gamer, guy, gal, or have a pulse, then probably.

For example:

Star Trek:

William Shatner (Captain Kirk) will be there (Saturday)

Dwight Schultz (Barclay)

Glenn Morshower (various)

Jonathan Frakes (Commander Riker) was scheduled but had to cancel due to his captain getting married (congratulations Patrick Stewart)

Star Wars:

Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca)

Ray Parks (Darth Maul)

David Prowse (Darth Vader)

Dirk Benedict (Face)

Dwight Schultz (Murdock)

Battlestar Galactica (old school):

Dirk Benedict (Starbuck)

Richard Hatch (Apollo)

Noah Hathaway (Boxey)

And we could keep going. But for this blog, we are interested in gaming, specifically computer/console gaming. For that, I have to direct you partially to the Salt Lake Comic Con website for full details, but a quick list:

Doug Vandegrift

Brandon Welch

Ross Przybylski

Clark Stacey

Tommy Tallarico

Chris Jones

Tae Kim

John and Brenda Romero

Greg Horn

Roger Altizer

Ed Fries

Just to name a few.

One thing is for sure, the inaugural Salt Lake Comic Con is sure to bring a lot of geeks, gamers, guys, gals, and guests to Salt Lake City for a lot of fun!

Stay tuned as we update daily throughout the Con, as long as I can remain caffeinated.
